Customer Question – Treating Vine Weevils
Q. “I have an attack of vine weevil on my bay trees. I have seen grubs and weevils. Please advise the best way and products that I should use at this time of the year to solve the problem. Do I need killer and traps? Thank you.” from Sheila Miller
Thanks for the message and it is always best to target the grubs in the spring and autumn, but if you have found grubs (July) then I would concentrate on controlling them as they do the damage. The adults will take notches out of the leaves, which is cosmetic but the grubs will damage the roots.
Treat now with Nemasys Vine Weevil Killer (because you have found grubs) and then treat again in the autumn to get the grubs under control. Then treat in the spring and autumn (April and Sept) next year to keep them under-control and, but keeping the grubs under-control the number of adults will greatly reduced as the grubs will not be maturing.
