Customer Question – Treating Leatherjackets
Q. “Hi. I have leatherjackets and I treated correctly x2 last year with Nemasys and then your root treatment. The grass is still dying off badly. No idea what soil temperature is here on Isle of Man. Can I use Nemasys again now or wait till spring? I have attached some pictures and as you will see in a dreadful state. However I’ve dug up a patch in each area and surprisingly saw NO leatherjackets. The soil is poor, thin layer of clay over sandy.” John by email and phone.
A. Thanks for the message and lawns always look awful at this time of year especially if they have been attacked the previous year because the root system will have been damaged. This means the grass cannot take up the nutrients and water it needs. You have done the right thing by treating with Nemasys Leatherjacket Killer and Root Success and once temperatures start rising and grass starts actively growing and the root success kicks in the grass should pick up quickly. Keep checking for leatherjackets especially if the birds start pecking, which indicates the leatherjackets are just below the surface, but if you do not find any then you do not need to treat. Let me know what you find. It would be a good idea to feed the lawn in the spring and summer to help the lawn recover and our Organic Lawn Food is ideal.
