Customer Question – Nemaslug now or in the Spring?
Q. “Hi I’d like to start using nematodes in my small garden to stop the slugs (this year was terrible!). I’ve never used them before but gather from your website that you can only use them in the spring and autumn times. I also see that they only last for two weeks in the fridge so I can’t buy any now to use in the spring (unless I could put some down now – is this still autumn?) Can I sign up now to receive some next year if none are available for a late autumn sow?” Many thanks Helen
A. Thanks for the message and nematodes i.e. Nemaslug is a natural solution to slugs, but being a living product it does only have a short shelf life i.e. 2 weeks in the fridge, so you do order it when you are ready to apply. Because it is living it also needs a soil temperature of 5c, so you use it outdoors between March and October , so you would start using it in the spring i.e. mid March. There is no point buying it now, as it will not keep until the spring, so why not subscribe to our email newsletter and we start reminding gardeners in the spring and then you can pre-order ready for the slug season. I hope this helps. Kind regards Jon @ Green Gardener
