Customer Question – Mealy Bug on Jade Plants
Q. “Hello, I have a lot of jade plants (money trees) in my conservatory and this year I have seen lots of mealybugs. I have tried spraying with a watered down version of neem oil but it hasn’t stopped them. I want to put them outside for the summer for the insect to eat, so I googled it and came across your website. Do you think I could try introducing Ladybirds and ladybird larvae to help control the mealybugs? Many thanks.” from Victoria
A. Thanks for the message and I wouldn’t use any predator including ladybirds if you are about to put them outside. I have had mealy bug in the past and spraying with Clean and Guard natural spray is the best solution I have found. Clean and Guard not only kills the pest, but it also cleans off the honeydew and as the name suggests stops it coming back for a while. Then in the autumn when you move your plants back in, spray them to clear them and then if it reappears you can release Cryptolaemus – the specific mealy bug predator.
