Full Description

Wireworm are the larvae of the common click beetle and they have along life cycle of up to 5 years, so they can be hard to control. Wireworms are a soil based pest that attack potatoes, carrots and other root crops in late summer and autumn. Control wireworms by watering Wireworm Nematodes into the soil when the soil temp is 12°C /54°F and the pest is present i.e. normally May to Sept. N.B. Wireworm Nematodes are normally applied between April and October. i.e. available NOW.

Wireworm Nematodes contain natural Heterorhabditis bacteriophora nematodes, which are effective at controlling wireworms and are safe to use on food crops and are safe for children, pets and wildlife. It is supplied as a powder which is mixed with water and applied to the soil through a watering can or for larger areas use a Hose-end Feeder / Nematode Applicator. The nematodes should be applied when the soil temp is 12°C /54°F and the pest is present (anytime between May and September). Apply plenty of water after application, so that the nematodes are washed into the soil where they can find the wireworms. As with all nematodes, order when you are ready to apply as they are perishable. Each pack of Wireworm Nematodes treats 100 sqm / 125 sq. yds – it must be used all at once once opened, so to treat a smaller area, just make the solution more concentrated (it is impossible to overdose). N.B. Due to the extended lifecycle, you may need to apply for a number of years to clear the pest.

N.B. Wireworm Nematodes need a soil temperature of 12°C and are a perishable product (it will keep for approx 2 weeks in the fridge)so please order when you are ready to apply.

N.B. Need a Coarse Rose, NemaCan Watering Can, EasyNem Applicator or Hose-end Feeder  – Add one to your basket and save £1.00 off a Coarse Rose OR save £2.00 off a EasyNem ApplicatorHose-end Feeder or NemaCan when bought with your nematodes (savings applied at the checkout).

Bought some wire worm nematodes and a coarse rose for the watering can. Products arrived when promised exactly as described on the website. Easy to follow instructions, seems to have worked as advertised. Now only finding dead wire worms when digging the allotment. Good service would recommend this produt and company.

Thanks for the message and yes you can but be aware Wireworm has an extended lifecycle, so you may need to treat again next year. Kind regards Jon @ Green Gardener

It works. I know which varieties of potato were susceptible to wirework and which weren’t. And in the year I applied this, there were far fewer holes in the ones that usually have loads of holes.

  7. Mike

Its now the beginning of September, should i treat the soil now before winter so it is “ready for next spring as my potatoes were ruined this year! Also can you apply when crops are growing or should the soil be bare? Many Thanks
