Customer Question – Black Mould on Olive tree?
Q. “Do you have a product that will control the black mould on my Olive Tree – I have attached a couple of pictures for you to look at? It is outside on high level decking facing south and partly under the roof eaves. I live on the Isle of Wight. Thanks.” Bob by Email
A. Thanks for the message and Black Mould is a symptom of something else i.e. normally a pest attack. I suspect it is Scale Insect as it is a favourite of olive trees. As pests such as scale insect feed they excrete sticky honeydew which drips down onto lower surfaces i.e. the lower leaves, truck and the pot and then black mould grows on the honeydew. Are the surfaces where the mould are under the pot sticky? The best thing is to use a spray to clean the honeydew away and control the post. Please CLICK HERE to find out more about scale insect (which I think is the underlying problem) and then I would recommend using Clean and Guard Soap to wash the honey dew away, kill the pest and stop it coming back – please visit https://www.greengardener.co.uk/product/clean-and-guard-horticultural-soap/ to find out more.
