Customer Question – Whitefly? and Sticky Plants
Q. “Hello, can you tell me what product you would recommend to control white spider mite on an indoor Calamondin plant please?” Philip Mansfield
A. Thanks for the message and I don’t think these are spider mites and look more like the dried out shed skins of aphids. Aphids (greenfly) shed there skins and when they do they leave them on the leaves and when they dry out they turn white. Are these pest moving? If not have a look at the leaves and growing points above where you are finding these for greenfly. Please let me know what you find?
Reply. “Thank you for you reply Jon. I think you are right in that the white bugs aren’t moving. There is a bit of a residue on some of the leaves which I know is symptomatic of greenfly. I can’t see any live greenfly on the growing tips of the plant but I will keep an eye out for them. Thanks again. “
A. Thanks for the update and might be worth spraying with a natural spray i.e. SB Invigorator to clear away the debris and stickiness and then it will be easier to spot if they come back. If they do reappear, introduce an aphid predator to give on-going control.
